Overview
Section locking allows individual sections of a template to be locked. If a section is locked, that section cannot be edited in any documents created from that template. Section locking is useful when you want to ensure specific clauses or content remains intact and cannot be changed.
Permissions for Section Locking
Section locking is managed through two separate permissions at the user level.
- Section Locking enables a user to lock specific sections in a template, preventing editing during drafting phases.
- Section Locking Overriding allows a user to override section locking, independent of their base permissions on the document. Use this setting when you need to allow specific users to bypass the locks for specific purposes.
Locking Sections in Draft Template Editor
To lock a section, select it in the editor and then enable the Section Lock setting. This setting is found in the right hand menu, in the Section > General tab, near the bottom.
Note that this option will only display for users with the Lock Section permission enabled. Users without the Section Lock permission cannot change the locked status, and cannot reformat or otherwise modify this section in any way.
Editing Locked Sections via Override Permission
During editing phases, all users will see a Locked indicator on sections that have been locked via this option. Users with the Locked Section Override permission will be able to edit and format these sections as normal.
